Annarita e Mary Mazzilli - Sister Act 2
Once again, Annarita Mazzilli and Mary, two arty sisters, will present a double-bill of dance and theatre at the same venue in London, at the Blue Elephant Theatre in Camberwell.
The dance piece Casa, created by the younger sister, Annarita Mazzilli will precede a short play, written by her sister Mary, a writer and university lecturer.
Both pieces explore issues of cultural and spiritual isolation. ‘Casa’ was a big hit at last year’s Camden Fringe Festival in London. The Dance piece is a collage of daily life situations in which bold characters express their emotions re-enacting their past through the use of coats, (yes, the winter coats!). One’s sense of belonging is questioned through contemporary dance brilliantly staged by twelve dancers, some originating from Tower Hamlet College.
Despotic and fantastic, on the other hand, is the scenario of Magical Chairs, the short play (20 minutes) by Mary Mazzilli, whose reputation continues to grow in the theatre circuits of the English capital. Magical Chairs was inspired by the French ‘theatre of the absurd’: three characters go back to their childhood and use magic and chairs to explore deep-buried memories.
The double-bill of the Mazzilli sisters, both members of the Academy Apulia UK, is a cultural event that showcases once again Italian talent at its best.
