Ludovico Einaudi presents: TARANTA.
There are times when Italians struggle may to explain to their British friends the Italian way of thinking - the art of slow food or the labyrinthine complexity of our political situation. They never need explain Ludovico Einaudi’s music. Its power knows no national boundaries and resonates with like-minded people across the globe. Ludovico is, indeed, one of our most successful and best exports of all times.
But we all know that, even though Ludovico has reached out to a massive audience across the world with his own music, he has never forgotten the strength and power of traditional Italian regional music.
After giving last year his own unique spin to the “Notte della Taranta”, when 100.000 people danced the warm Apulian night away, Ludovico is bringing this special event to the Barbican on 25 and 26 June.
Having its roots in the obsessive beat and melodies devised to cure the bite of the venomous tarantula, both a real and a mythological creature, this is music at its shamanic best, magic made notes and rhythms, dance music at its primeval strength.
Einaudi has revisited this tradition by writing new music and inviting Internationally renowned guests to perform on stage with him, such as the Turkish multi-instrumentalist and DJ MERCAN DEDE, the Greek singer SAVINA YANNATOU, and the Malian multi-awards winner kora player BALLAKE SISSOKO.
