Nico Didonna - Fashion Designer

Born in Noicattaro, Bari, Fashion Designer Nico Didonna moved to London in the early 80s where he has lived ever since. He finds London as an exciting and happening place as well as an inspiring city for his collections.

(Please refer to the bottom of the page to find useful links relating to the field of Fashion)

Accademia Apulia has asked Nico Didonna the following quesitons:

Which is the most interesting aspect of your job?

I love what I do a lot and so does my clientele. I dress some beautiful and influential people worldwide which I suppose makes me most proud. The most interesting aspect of my profession is being able to complement people’s style and personality with my designs. Seeing people walking down the street wearing my clothes is great feeling.

Which is the most important achievement of your professional career/life to date?

The opening of my first boutique in the heart of Soho and taking part to London Fashion Week. For the autumn/winter 2008/9 I designed a collection inspired by ‘Black & Magic’, which was most acclaimed by the international fashionistas. You can see the the catwalk by visiting www.nicodidonna.com

Do you know a good recruitment agency/organisation that could help others to progress in your field? What advice do you have for them?

If you really like fashion I suggest you get any job going within the fashion industry. Focus on the tailoring as much as designing because there is no point in creating something in your head that you can’t actually cut and piece together.

I graduated from the London College of Fashion which is the best place to start if you intend to make it in this business. You should also contact Fashion Designers for any kind of available internship/training where you will learn about the unglamorous side of fashion. Making it in fashion today is hard work but if you are determined, you have creative skills and are willing to learn you will make it.

Feel free to contact me for any questions you may have to info@nico-d.com

How do you spend your free time? Which is your favourite bar/restaurant/club?

I enjoy going to a good art exhibition. The Tate Modern is for me a very inspiring place. My favourite restaurant is Sketch but I also like going to the Long Bar for a glass (or two!) of bubbly.
Which is your favourite book? And film?
The Kite Runner shall remain one of the most beautiful books I have ever read. Pedro Almodovar’s films are always a good hit with me. I love ‘La Mala Educacion’.
What are your plans for the future?

Take my designs worldwide by taking part to London Fashion Week as far as Sao Paulo.
