Riccardo Sai - film director

Riccardo is a versatile, highly motivated award-winning film director with an innovative approach, a strong sense of style and a eye for details.

He has directed promos, commercial and documentary films for Nike, BBC, Microsoft, Red Cross, Agent Provocateur, Intesa Sanpaolo, Unilever, European Union, to name but a few.

Riccardo is now working on his first feature film. Here is what he has to say for himself:

(Please scroll to the end of the page for useful links relating to film & media)

My work is amazing because ...
I put my heart and soul in my work

I appreciate what critics have to say, but ...

Times have changed - not many people can call themselves critics, most of them are either journalists or frustrated filmmakers.

The most surprising thing that happened to me
was ...
Learning how to tell stories and making a living out of it.

Last piece of good advice someone gave me was …
get in touch with your inner-child.

My greatest achievement so far is ...
To have worked for the BBC.

At night I dream of…
Directing a feature film.

The artist who influenced me the most is …
Federico Fellini, Nan Goldin, Hugo Pratt, Andrei Tarkovsky, Giacomo Balla, Danijel Zezelj, Jean Luc Godard, Edward Hopper, Johan Sebastian Bach.

If I weren't talking to you right now I'd be ...
Reading Peanuts in the toilet.

A phrase I use far too often is ...
“Comunque’ (however)

I wish people would take more notice of ...
The spirituality of nature.

A common misperception of me is ...
That I am confident.

I am not a politician but ...
I think art can get quite ‘political’.

I'm good at ...
Making people at ease.

I'm bad at ...
Liaising with people I don’t like.

The ideal night out is ...
Korean dinner and Sadler’s Wells.

In moments of weakness I ...
Become very silent.

In a nutshell, my philosophy is this:
Networking, Developing, Self-promoting, Creating

My message to the world is ...
This life is such an incredible journey, so full of amazing people and unique adventures and ... is all yours.
