Apulian Excellence comes to London
''Home - My Place in the World''
During the Summer of 2012, London will be the focus of world attention, not only in the field of sport, but also in the fields of Art and Culture - all represented by five stars, symbols of civilisation: Science, Art, Literature, Technology and Environment.
With a potential audience of about 10 million visitors, this summer represents a unique opportunity for Puglia’s creative excellence to become part of a historic cultural calendar. Funded by the regional government of Puglia, Accademia Apulia and the Italian Cultural Insitute in London are honoured to present to the international community ''Home - My Place in the World'', a calendar of Made-in-Puglia events showcased at various prestigious locations in central London.
Between 16-21 July 2012 Puglia’s contemporary artistic heritage, culinary tradition and magnificent natural landscapes will be promoted to the international public. With the title ''Home - My Place in the World'', Accademia Apulia also aims to stimulate a debate around the idea of the “home”
According to the International Organization for Migration, in 2010 the number of migrants at worldwide was estimated at 214 million - a figure likely to increase as the world faces economic strife, conflict and environmental shifts.
In this context, the concept of 'Home' or 'homeland' takes a whole new meaning. Whilst in the past homeland was represented by one’s place of birth, now it is the place where one feels at home. From this perspective, ‘political’ barriers between states lose their meaning with everyone becoming citizens of the world.
This summer, when athletes and visitors from every corner of the planet converge on London to celebrate the achievements of mankind, the importance of the World’s rich heritage will be reaffirmed. The discrimination enacted throughout history has no place today.
Supported by Apulia Film Commission, Sistema Puglia and Friends of Puglia, ''Home - My Place in the World'' has received the Patronage of the European Commission, Amnesty International and the International Organisation for Migration.
