Sally Potter to receive the “SIFF DIRECTOR AWARD”

SALLY POTTER TO RECEIVE “SIFF DIRECTOR AWARD” AT THE PRINCE CHARLES CINEMA IN LONDON FROM THE SALENTO INT’L FILM FESTIVAL

The Salento International Film Festival celebrates the 30 year career of acclaimed British Director, Oscar Nominated SALLY POTTER. On April 3rd in London  at the Prince Charles Cinema, during the SIFF LONDON BEST OF THE FEST, Sally Potter in person will receive the " SIFF DIRECTOR AWARD", which recognizes a Director for their visionary achievements in cinema. Sally Potter’s work has, from the early 1970’s, embraced dance,
performance, theatre, music and film. Since her first cult hit with THRILLER (1979), Potter has concentrated on film and directed her first feature, THE GOLD DIGGERS, starring Julie Christie, in 1983. Potter then
made a short, THE LONDON STORY, and several documentaries before the internationally acclaimed and multi-award winning ORLANDO, starring Tilda Swinton. This was followed by THE TANGO LESSON (1996) and THE MAN WHO CRIED (2000), starring Christina Ricci, Johnny Depp, Cate Blanchett and John Turturro. In 2004 Potter made YES, starring Joan Allen, Simon Abkarian, and Sam Neill. Potter then directed CARMEN for English National Opera in Autumn 2007. Potter’s new film, RAGE, starring Judi Dench, Jude Law, Steve Buscemi, Simon Abkarian and Dianne Wiest is released in 2009. The Salento International Film Festival (SIFF) is a celebration of films and filmmakers, promotes international independent films, in recognition of the fact that movies are the most powerful form of cultural communication and link between cultures' and peoples'.

Founded in 2004 by Luigi Campanile, the Salento International Film festival emerged as a major cultural event and one of the top Film festival in Southern Italy. Each year it introduces filmmakers worldwide to the Salento area's unique resources, while celebrating the history and the future of the film industry with 10 days of world premieres, special events, seminars, feature films, short films, documentaries, and all night parties.

SIFF BEST OF THE FEST April 2-3 at the Prince Charles Cinema, is produced by CineSalento a cultural non-profit organization with the support of the Region of Apulia, The Province of Lecce, The Italian Cultural
Institute
of London, The Italian Trade Commission and The Accademia Apulia UK. This two-day event will contain feature films and short-films, Q&A with Directors and cast, a welcome cocktail and a chance to win 4 trips to Salento Film Festival (3-12 September 2010) in Tricase in the heart of Salento (Southern Italy) the land of the sun.  Prize includes half board accommodation for one person for one week during the festival.
